He gave these instructions while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting to review the progress of the 180-day action plan framed as per the government's election manifesto, held on Tuesday (July 28) at the conference room of the Local Government Division in the Secretariat.
The Deputy Minister said that over the last 180 days, the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives has implemented various important initiatives to enhance the capacity of local government institutions, modernize urban management, rural development, safe water supply, sanitation, cleanliness activities, and improve the quality of citizen services. The actual progress of these activities and their positive impact on people must be properly presented.
He further said that it is essential to reflect the expectations of the people in the government's first 180-day activities. Instructions have been given to the concerned officials to ensure that the achievements, ongoing activities and future action plans of the ministry and its subordinate departments and agencies are presented in an information-based and realistic manner.
Mir Shah Alam said that along with development, the effective steps taken to ensure good governance, transparency, accountability and prevent corruption are also an important part of the 180-day achievements. The main goal of the government is to gain the trust of the people through people-welfare oriented development.
Referring to the Prime Minister's ‘Clean and Green City’ philosophy, the Deputy Minister said that waste management in Dhaka metropolis and across the country must be made more modern, integrated and sustainable. He urged all concerned institutions to work in an integrated manner on waste management, cleanliness activities and increasing public awareness to build a clean, healthy and livable Bangladesh.
The meeting, chaired by Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hasan, was attended in person and virtually by Director General of National Institute of Local Government (NILG) Dr. Rowshan Ara Begum, Managing Director of Dhaka WASA Md. Aminul Islam, Additional Secretary Suraiya Akhtar Jahan, Director General of Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Inspection Sub-division Md. Mahmudul Hasan, Chief Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Md. Belal Hossain, Chief Engineer of Public Health Engineering Department Md. Abdul Awal, Registrar General of Birth and Death Registration Dr. Abu Nasr Mohammad Abdullah, Chief Executive Officers of various city corporations, Managing Directors of WASA, and senior officials from various departments and agencies under the ministry.
