Do not heed rumors, verify information before publishing news: Fakir Mahbub Anam
Fakir Mahbub Anam, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology, said, “Initiatives are ongoing to make the postal department more popular. The rumors being spread about the sale of ‘Nagad’ are baseless. Do not be misled by such propaganda.”

Stating that the government management of this financial institution will continue for market competition, he said that the government's goal is to make state-owned enterprises like Nagad more efficient, profitable, and people-oriented.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Franchise Post Office at the Dhaka Post Office building in Agargaon on Wednesday, and at the formal handover of Tk 18 crore 57 lakh as a portion of the profit from the revenue collected in the 2025-26 fiscal year of Nagad to the Department of Posts.

The minister said that the post office franchise system is not a new concept; it has been successfully operating in many countries around the world for many years. In Bangladesh as well, through this initiative, postal services will be brought to the doorsteps of the people. He said that extensive publicity about the benefits of the franchise post office must be conducted among the people and entrepreneurs so that more entrepreneurs join this activity. The minister expressed hope that gradually, opportunities will be created to run all post offices in the country under the franchise model, which will increase the scope of citizen services on one hand, and create new employment and business opportunities on the other. He wished the franchise entrepreneurs well and assured them that if there are any problems in conducting their activities, the postal department will provide all kinds of cooperation.

After receiving the check for Nagad's revenue, the minister
said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the current government has made significant progress in implementing its election pledges within six months of taking office. Nagad's profit-making is an important example of that success. He said that digital financial services are playing an important role in providing safe, easy, and affordable services at the doorsteps of the common people. Through the modernization of the postal department, increasing Nagad's technological capabilities, and ensuring transparency and accountability, the institution must be made more trustworthy and people-friendly.

The minister further said that as a government-owned institution, people have special trust in Nagad. With modern software, improved customer service, and innovative initiatives, Nagad can be made more competitive and stronger. At the same time, initiatives are being taken to transform more than 9,000 post offices in the country into modern service centers so that people in remote areas can also easily access digital and financial services.

Fakir Mahbub Anam said that in the current fiscal year, Nagad has paid a significant amount of tax and revenue, which is a positive achievement for the state and contributes importantly to the country's revenue growth.

In her speech as the special guest, the Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, Bilkis Jahan Rimi, said that increasing government revenue is essential to ensure improved citizen services. As a result of the partnership between the postal department and Nagad, public trust, government revenue, and the income of the postal department have significantly increased. She said that the current government is working tirelessly to ensure transparency, accountability, and technology-based services.

It is noteworthy that in the first phase, 4 franchise post offices will be opened within Dhaka and 4 outside Dhaka. In the future, this activity will be expanded step by step to all regions of the country.

After that, the minister exchanged views with the non-divisional (EDI) agents of the postal department. At that time, he said that efforts would be made to solve their problems through discussion.

The event was presided over by Md. Motasim Billah, Administrator of BPO-Nagad. The Director General (Current Charge) of the Department of Posts, Kazi Asadul Islam, was present as a special guest. Senior officials of Nagad, officials of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, officials of the Department of Posts, and relevant stakeholders were present at the time.
