Commerce Minister Khondaker Abdul Muktadir inaugurated the training program at the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday afternoon.
He said the use of AI in government work can make administrative activities faster, more efficient and information-driven. AI can play an important role in analyzing import-export data, monitoring market conditions and product demand and prices, and analyzing the possible impacts of trade policies. Through this, quick decision-making and more effective services to businessmen and the general public will be possible. However, along with the use of AI, data security, personal privacy, transparency and human oversight must be ensured. He emphasized building a modern and smart trade system by ensuring the maximum use of technology.
In various sessions of the training, the basics of generative AI and its use in trade, summarization and analysis of government documents, prompt engineering, preparation of letters-memos, speeches and press releases, import-export and market price analysis, supply chain, WTO agreements, and the application of AI in FTA and PTA analysis will be taught. In addition, the strategic use of AI in global trade policy, policy formulation and e-governance will also be discussed. On the final day, the training program will conclude with a capstone project and live presentations.
At the event, UNDP Senior Economic Advisor Waiz Pari and Transformative Economic Policy Program (TEPP-2) Project Manager Maruf Azam spoke. In his welcome speech, Waiz Pari said AI can make policy formulation and implementation easier and more efficient by quickly analyzing huge amounts of data, documents and information. In addition to reducing workload, it will be possible to learn from past experiences in formulating future trade and industrial policies. However, instead of relying entirely on AI, human judgment and oversight must be ensured. He emphasized organizing more training programs on trade-based AI models in the future.
Through this program funded by UNDP, an initiative has been taken to develop the AI-based skills of Ministry of Commerce officials and ensure the effective use of technology in government decision-making and policy formulation.
