The scrutiny of nomination papers of BNP-backed candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 11-party alliance candidate Oli Ahmed in the presidential election will be held today, Sunday (August 16). According to Election Commission sources, the election official will examine nomination papers from 10 am at the Election Building and the process will continue until it is completed.
EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said a total of three nomination papers were submitted—two by Oli Ahmed and one by Mirza Fakhrul. A representative of the Parliament Secretariat will be present during scrutiny.

The deadline for withdrawing candidacy is 4 pm on August 18, and voting will be held on August 20. This is the first time since 1991 that voting is taking place in a presidential election. On August 6, the EC announced the schedule for the vacant post.
