He made these remarks while speaking at a dinner hosted by Masud Jamil Khan, Honorary Consul of Ireland in Bangladesh, and his wife Kate Jaro Khan at Baridhara, Dhaka, on Sunday night.
Speaking about relations between the two countries, Dinesh Trivedi said that Bangladesh and India not only share a border but also have common aspirations among their peoples. Emphasising that various challenges in the relationship should be addressed through dialogue, he expressed confidence that problems can be resolved through meetings.
While differences and disagreements exist between the two countries, he stressed the importance of moving forward with common goals. In his words, "Bangladesh and India are two sovereign countries, and having distinct positions and opinions is natural. However, ensuring that the people of both countries live with dignity, honour, and mutual respect should be the shared objective."
Describing Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarek Rahman and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "leaders of the people," Dinesh Trivedi said there is no problem that cannot be resolved when the two leaders sit down face-to-face for discussions.
He said he wants to take the Bangladesh-India relationship to a "golden chapter" and called upon both countries to move forward to achieve that goal.
Earlier, on Saturday, Dinesh Trivedi spoke at the celebration of India's 80th Independence Day at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka. There, he emphasised further strengthening the partnership between the two countries in various areas, including trade, connectivity, security, and healthcare.
He said that people-to-people contact between the two countries is one of the main foundations of their long-standing friendship. He noted that there is scope to advance the Bangladesh-India relationship further, built on shared history, mutual respect, and partnership.
The Indian High Commissioner also said that a good relationship between the two countries would be beneficial for both. He stressed the need to move forward through regular dialogue and communication at the leadership level.
The dinner was attended by ambassadors and high commissioners of various countries accredited to Dhaka, former diplomats, businesspeople, and former civilian and military officials, along with distinguished individuals from various professions.
