‘Pink Bus’ launching today, services available on these routes in Dhaka
To ensure safe and comfortable commute for women in public transport in the capital, the special ‘Pink Bus’ service of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) is launching today, Tuesday (August 18). These buses will be operated by female drivers and conductors.

This information was provided in a press release sent by BRTC Public Relations Officer Mostakim Bhuiyan. This special bus service is being launched as part of the implementation of the government's election manifesto.

At 10:00 am on Tuesday, the ‘Women Bus Service Operation’ programme will be inaugurated at the BRTC Dhaka Truck Depot premises in Tejgaon, Dhaka.

Initially, 10 ‘Pink Buses’ will operate on various important routes in the capital. In addition, outside Dhaka, two buses in Bogura, two in Chattogram and four more buses will be added to this special service. Female staff will serve as drivers and conductors of these buses.

Via Coca-Cola, New Market, Uttar Badda, Madhya Badda, Merul Badda, Rampura, Abul Hotel, Malibagh, Kakrail, Paltan and Gulistan to Motijheel.

2. Taltola-Motijheel

Via Taltola, Khilgaon Railgate, Basabo, Buddhist Temple, Mugda, Kamalapur Railway Station, Arambagh, Shapla Chattar and Secretariat to Motijheel.

3. Demra Staff Quarter-GPO

Via Demra Staff Quarter, Bansher Pool, Kazla, Jatrabari, Janapath Mor, Gulistan, Paltan, Secretariat and Matsya Bhaban to GPO.

4. Mirpur-10-Motijheel

Via Mirpur-10, Technical, Kallyanpur, Shamoli, Asadgate, Kalabagan, Shahbagh and Paltan to Motijheel.

5. Mirpur-Motijheel

Via Mirpur-12, Mirpur-10, Mirpur-1, Technical, Shamoli, Farmgate, Shahbagh and Gulistan to Motijheel.

6. Mirpur-12-Motijheel

Via Mirpur-12, Mirpur-11, Mirpur-10, Kazipara, Sheorapara, Farmgate, Shahbagh, Press Club and Gulistan to Motijheel.

7. Mohammadpur-Motijheel

Via Mohammadpur, Shankar, Dhanmondi-15, City College, New Market, Elephant Road, Shahbagh and Paltan to Motijheel.

8. Abdullahpur-Motijheel

Via Abdullahpur, Airport, Khilkhet, Bishwa Road, Kuril, Banani, Mohakhali, Farmgate, Shahbagh, Press Club and Gulistan to Motijheel.

9. Gazipur-Airport

Via Gazipur, Shib Bari, Gazipur Chourasta, Maleker Bari, Board Bazar, Gazipura, College Gate, Station Road, Abdullahpur and Ashpur to Airport.

10. Mirpur-Motijheel

In the initial phase, another designated bus is scheduled to be added to this corridor.

‘Pink Bus’ will also operate outside Dhaka

Outside the capital, two ‘Pink Buses’ will run on the Sherpur-Matidali route in Bogura and two on the Kalurghat-Patenga route in Chattogram.

The Chattogram buses will travel via important areas including Kalurghat, Kaptai Rastar Matha, Bahaddarhat, Muradpur, Gate No. 2, GEC More and Lalkhan Bazar up to Patenga.

BRTC hopes that the launch of this separate bus service for women will increase their safety and commute comfort in public transport. At the same time, new employment opportunities will be created for female drivers and conductors.
