Week-long 'Hridoye Dhaka-416' Film Festival Begins August 22 in Dhaka
A week-long film festival and award ceremony titled 'Hridoye Dhaka-416' is being organised by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) to showcase the history, heritage, and cultural diversity of Dhaka to the younger generation and to preserve the rich past of the capital. A press conference was held today (Wednesday, August 19) at Madhumita Hall in Motijheel, Dhaka, to present the detailed programme to the media.

The press conference was chaired by DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam. It highlighted the preservation of the city's history and heritage, the portrayal of Dhaka's cultural identity through cinema, and efforts to engage the new generation with urban culture.

A sub-committee formed under the DSCC Administrator's direction has selected 13 heritage and significant films from the early days of Dhallywood to be screened over the week. Additionally, 58 veteran and emerging artists, directors, writers, musicians, lyricists, cinematographers, and other distinguished filmmakers will be honoured for their outstanding contributions to cinema.

The press conference announced that the week-long film festival and award ceremony will be inaugurated on August 22, 2026 (Saturday) at 4 PM at Madhumita Cinema Hall. The Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony will be Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon MP. Special guests will include State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam MP and Hamidur Rahman, MP for Dhaka-7 constituency. The event will be presided over by DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam.

August 23 at 3 PM: 'Nawab Sirajouddaula' by Khan Ataur Rahman, and at 6 PM: '13 No Feku Ostagar Lane' by Bashir Hossain.
August 24 at 3 PM: 'Jibon Theke Neya' by Zahir Raihan, and at 6 PM: 'Nantu Ghotok' by Gazi Mazharul Anwar.

August 27 at 3 PM: 'Durdash' directed by Ehtesham, and at 6 PM: 'Dahan' by Sheikh Niamat Ali.
August 28 at 3 PM: 'Dost Dushman' by Dewan Nazrul, and at 6 PM: 'Badhu Biday' by Kazi Zahir.

Notably, under the slogan 'Celebration, Pride, Responsibility,' DSCC has undertaken various civic initiatives to mark the 'Hridoye Dhaka-416' anniversary, including cycling rallies, marathons, tree fairs, stage plays, swimming competitions, boat races, and city cleanliness drives.

The press conference was attended by renowned actress Dilara Zaman, President of the Bangladesh Film Artists' Association Chowdhury Mazhar Ali (Shiva Shanu), Madhumita Cinema Hall Manager Iftekhar Uddin Nawshad, and senior officials of Dhaka South City Corporation.

DSCC has sought the full and positive cooperation of the media to ensure the success of the event and to build a liberal, modern, and culture-friendly Dhaka.
