Grameenphone Deposits Tk 24.60 Crore into Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation Fund
Grameenphone, one of the country's leading telecommunications service providers, has deposited Tk 24.60 crore into the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation Fund. The company made this deposit as part of its commitment to labour welfare and responsible corporate practices. The amount represents 10 percent of the company's Workers' Profit Participation Fund (WPPF) for 2025.

A delegation led by Grameenphone's Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Syeda Tahia Hossain handed over the cheque to Md. Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Minister for Labour and Employment and Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, at an event held at the Ministry of Labour and Employment in Dhaka. Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Md. Abdur Rahman Tarafdar was also present.

During the cheque handover, Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that the contribution of workers to the country's economic development and industrial growth is undeniable. The government is committed to ensuring the overall welfare and security of workers. The regular participation of leading companies like Grameenphone in the labour welfare fund is highly commendable. This reflects not only respect for the law but also an exemplary display of responsible corporate behaviour. He expressed hope that other domestic and foreign companies would also come forward for the social protection of workers.

Under the Bangladesh Labour Act, local and multinational companies deposit one-tenth of 5 percent of their annual profits into the labour welfare fund at the end of each year. Since the inception of the fund, Grameenphone, as a responsible corporate company and one of the top contributors to this fund, has deposited a total of Tk 329,89,17,947 into the Labour Welfare Foundation Fund up to the 2024 fiscal year. In the 2025 fiscal year, the company has added an additional Tk 24,60,87,565 to the fund.
