Rohingya crisis creating pressure on law and order and economy: Army Chief
Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has said that the Rohingya crisis is putting significant pressure on Bangladesh's environment, law and order situation, and economy. He also said there is a risk that a portion of Rohingyas could become involved in various criminal activities, including environmental destruction and drug smuggling.

He said these things at the closing ceremony of a three-week capstone course organized at the National Defence College in Mirpur Cantonment on Thursday.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman said, 'The prolonged presence of Rohingyas in Bangladesh is creating various kinds of pressure. Their presence is having a negative impact on the environment. In addition, the risk of various criminal activities, including drug smuggling, is also increasing.'

He said, 'Due to giving shelter to Rohingyas for a long time, significant pressure has also been created on the country's economy. The impact of this crisis is not limited only to the humanitarian field, but its impact is also being felt on the environment, security and economy.'

NDC Commandant Lieutenant General Md Faizur Rahman gave the welcome speech. He said that one of the objectives of this course was to enhance leadership capabilities as well as exchange knowledge and experience among participants on various important national and international issues.

At the event, the Army Chief distributed certificates among the fellows who took part in the three-week capstone course. A total of 37 people from various professions, including senior military officers, academics, doctors, senior representatives of government and private institutions, diplomats, journalists and corporate representatives, participated in the course.
