Mirza Fakhrul elected as country's 23rd president
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, candidate of the ruling party BNP, has been elected as the 23rd President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. He was elected head of state by the votes of parliament members.

On Thursday (August 20), after voting in a festive atmosphere in the session hall of the National Parliament, Mirza Fakhrul was declared victorious after counting.
