Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir paid tribute by placing flowers at the graves of BNP founder late President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
On Friday (August 21), after Jummah prayers, around 2 pm, he went to Zia Park in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital and paid tribute at the graves of the two leaders separately.

During this time, security around the grave area was tightened. Members of police, Detective Branch (DB) and Special Security Force (SSF) were on duty there.

Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul was elected president. He is scheduled to take oath this evening at the historic Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban. It has been reported that all preparations for organizing the oath ceremony have already been completed.
