He made the remarks after wrapping up a cleanliness drive at Dirai canal in Kamrangirchar on Friday (August 21). Dhaka District Administration and BD Clean jointly organised the programme.
The state minister said if the rivers and canals are renovated in a planned manner, people's convenience will increase in waterway as well as road communication. He also stressed protecting rivers and canals to reduce waterlogging and environmental pollution in the city.
He said the government is working to build a 'Clean Bangladesh and Green Bangladesh'. To achieve this goal, everyone must come forward irrespective of party and opinion.
Noting that government initiatives alone are not enough to protect canals and rivers, Mir Shah Alam urged citizens to play a responsible role from their respective positions.
