According to the ‘Retraction Watch’ database, the retracted papers include those by Professor Dr. Md. Nur Alam of the Department of Mathematics, Professor Dr. Tahmina Tasnim Nahar and Associate Professor Dr. Md. Motiur Rahman of the Department of Civil Engineering, Associate Professor Dr. Md. Lokman Ali of the Department of Physics, and Assistant Professor Dr. AHM Iftekharul Ferdous of the Department of EEE.
Irregularities in the peer review process, inconsistencies in data, plagiarism, reuse of the same data, and irrelevant references and citations were cited as reasons for the retractions.
However, some of the teachers concerned have denied allegations of intentional research misconduct. Professor Tahmina Tasnim Nahar said her research paper was retracted because of an incorrect reference. Associate Professor Dr. Md. Lokman Ali also claimed that, in his case, the main issue was the inconsistency of a few references.
According to experts, unintentional errors can happen in research. However, data fabrication, stealing others' research, or intentionally publishing misleading information constitutes a serious breach of research ethics. In cases of such allegations, ensuring transparent investigation and accountability is crucial.
PUST Registrar Bijon Kumar Bramha said the matter was not formally brought to the university administration's notice earlier. If allegations are received, an investigation will be carried out and necessary administrative measures will be taken.
