Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir paid tribute to the brave martyrs of the Great Liberation War by laying a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar.
He paid tribute at the memorial around 10:30 am on Saturday (August 22). A contingent of the Army, Navy and Air Force gave the President a guard of honor. A mournful tune was played on bugles.

After paying tribute, the President signed the visitor's book at the memorial.

Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul was elected President by votes of members of the national parliament on Thursday. He was formally sworn in as President at Bangabhaban on Friday.
