He said this during a views-exchange meeting with officials of the ministry and its subordinate departments and agencies at the Secretariat on the first working day after assuming charge on Sunday (August 23).
Andaleev Rahman said it is important to present government activities to the people in a credible manner and ensure people's right to know. Referring to media as one of the main pillars of democracy, he said over the past 17 years, despite various limitations, the media has presented information about the government's irregularities, failures and atrocities to the people.
He commented that the role of the media was also important in the July movement. At the same time, he said the ministry's job is not to control the media, but to ensure an environment of independent journalism through necessary regulation and cooperation.
The Information and Broadcasting Minister also emphasized removing the structural problems and moral decay created in various state institutions over the past 17 years and building a new system.
