During the meeting, the minister was briefed on food grain procurement, storage and supply management, government food distribution programmes, food security and future action plans. A PowerPoint presentation highlighting the ministry’s activities and progress was also presented.
Speaking at the meeting, Food Minister Afroza Khanam said ensuring food security for the people must go hand in hand with making government food programmes more effective, transparent and people-oriented. She stressed the need to ensure transparency, accountability, efficiency and discipline at every level of food management.
She said the benefits of food procurement, storage, transportation and distribution must reach the genuine beneficiaries. She also urged officials and employees of the ministry to bring visible changes through sincerity, dedication and mutual cooperation.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Afrozа Khanam said the Ministry of Food must play an important role in implementing the Prime Minister’s vision and the government’s commitments. To this end, she called upon everyone to work together with unity and a strong sense of responsibility.
Food State Minister Md. Abdul Bari, Food Secretary Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana, the Director General of the Directorate General of Food, and senior officials from the Ministry of Food, Directorate General of Food and Bangladesh Food Safety Authority were present at the meeting.
