The president arrived at Bangabhaban at around 11am on Sunday (August 23), where a well-equipped mounted police unit welcomed him. The mounted unit escorted the president’s motorcade to the traditional Credentials Field at Bangabhaban.
There, a smartly turned-out contingent of the President Guard Regiment (PGR) accorded him a guard of honour.
Following the guard of honour and other formalities, senior officials of the President’s Office welcomed the president and his family members with flowers. His Military Secretary Major General ASM Bahauddin, Secretary of the Public Division AJM Salahuddin Nagari, Press Secretary Sarwar Alam and Assistant Military Secretary Brigadier General Mohammad Raisul Islam were present at the reception.
After the reception, President Mirza Fakhrul entered his office at Bangabhaban and exchanged greetings with senior officials present there. He later signed the visitors’ book at Bangabhaban.
The president then began his first day of official activities in his new capacity. He was briefed on the overall activities and administrative operations of the President’s Office. He also held brief review meetings with officials at various levels.
With these activities, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir formally began his official functions at Bangabhaban as the country’s 23rd president.
Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul took the oath as the 23rd president of Bangladesh at a ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on Friday night.
Before becoming president, he served as the Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD&C). At that time, he was residing at the government residence on Hare Road in the capital.
