Bangladesh, China Working Together to Develop Renewable Energy
Bangladesh and China are working together to develop renewable energy, particularly solar power, to help address Bangladesh’s energy crisis and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has said.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting with Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moin Khan and State Minister Mir Shahe Alam at the Secretariat on Thursday morning.

Yao Wen said China is keen to use its technological expertise to support Bangladesh in addressing its energy shortages. He said there is further scope for cooperation between the two countries, particularly in expanding renewable energy.

The Chinese ambassador said new opportunities for bilateral cooperation have emerged following the prime minister’s recent visit to China. During the visit, the two countries agreed to work towards building a “China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.”

He said significant progress has been made in economic and infrastructure cooperation over the past two months following the prime minister’s visit. The foundation stone of Bangladesh’s first special economic zone with Chinese assistance has been laid, while a feasibility study for the Teesta River project is underway.

Yao Wen also said construction work on a Women’s Residential Hall at the University of Dhaka and a hospital is progressing.

He further said discussions and efforts are underway to increase the number of direct flights between Bangladesh and China to strengthen connectivity between the two countries.
