Prime Minister's directives to ease traffic congestion in the capital

To ease traffic congestion in the capital and restore discipline in public transport, the government has decided to relocate the Fulbaria bus terminal to Keraniganj. Before the permanent terminal is built, a temporary terminal will be constructed within four months on 15 acres of land under the Jhilmil project.

The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister's Tejgaon office on Saturday.

At the meeting, a decision was taken to introduce Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) at toll plazas on expressways and flyovers. An app will also be developed for this, and directives were given to complete the work within four months.

Besides, decisions were taken to expand Gabtoli bus terminal, relocate Karwan Bazar kitchen market to Gabtoli, and increase parking facilities in the Secretariat area.

BUET has been asked to give new recommendations within 15 days to ease congestion on the Jatrabari-Gulistan flyover. In addition, decisions were made to formulate a separate policy for auto-rickshaw movement and to take action against unauthorised double-decker sleeper buses.
