Salaries of MPO-listed teachers and employees also increasing
Teachers and employees of private educational institutions under MPO will also get the benefits of the new national pay structure. A high-level government source confirmed the matter on Tuesday.

After the Cabinet meeting on Monday approved the new pay structure, uncertainty arose over whether MPO-listed teachers and employees would be brought under its coverage. Later, the government side confirmed that they too would be given the benefits of the new structure.

Once the new pay structure takes effect, the basic salary of MPO-listed teachers and employees will increase according to their current posts and grades. As a result, the amount of salary increase for teachers and employees of schools, colleges, madrasas and technical education institutions will vary by grade.

The new structure has 20 grades. It has been proposed to increase the basic salary of the lowest 20th grade from Tk 8,250 to Tk 20,000, and that of the first grade from Tk 78,000 to Tk 156,000. Depending on the grade, the basic salary will increase by about 100 to 142 percent.

Currently, more than six lakh teachers and employees are MPO-listed in the country. Among them, about four lakh work under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, nearly one and three-quarter lakh under the Madrasah Education Directorate, and more than 23,000 under the Directorate of Technical Education.

The new pay structure will not be fully implemented at once. There is a plan to implement the increased basic salary in phases from July 1 this year. The entire increased basic salary is to be implemented by July 2027. And the allowances will be implemented at once from January 1, 2028.

According to the plan, in the first phase, 50 percent of the increased basic salary will be implemented for grades 10 to 20, 25 percent in the second phase, and the remaining 25 percent in the third phase. For grades 1 to 9, increased salary will be implemented at 40, 30 and 30 percent respectively.

As a result, when the new pay structure is fully implemented, MPO-listed teachers and employees will also get the benefit of significant salary increases according to their respective grades.
