Local government elections are a big challenge for us: Mir Shah Alam
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shah Alam has said that there is a plan to complete the local government elections within the current fiscal year. He said holding free, fair and impartial elections is a big challenge for the government.

On Tuesday (September 1), he said these things to journalists after a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi at the Secretariat in the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.

Mir Shah Alam said, the local government elections were discussed with the Indian High Commissioner. He himself is also a politician and has served as a member of parliament and minister in India. In the meeting, he shared his experiences, and we also presented ours.

The state minister said the government wants to complete the local government elections within the current fiscal year. These elections are a big challenge for the government because they have to be arranged in a free, fair and impartial manner. He said, 'We are a democratic government, a government elected by the people's votes.'

Meanwhile, when asked about the possibility of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to India against the backdrop of tensions in relations between the two countries over former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's stay in India, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi did not want to comment on Bangladesh's internal politics.
