A senior ACC official confirmed the matter to the media on Wednesday (September 2). A special four-member team has also been formed to investigate the allegations. The team is led by ACC Deputy Director Md. Zahid Kalam.
The others related to the allegations are — then Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Md. Mahbub-Ul-Alam, Joint Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Zubayed Hossain and Deputy Secretary Md. Masum Ahmed.
According to ACC sources, allegations have been made against Asif Mahmud including accepting bribes, money laundering, transferring money abroad, bitcoin transactions, extortion, nepotism and expanding regional influence. The financial amount of these allegations is claimed to be thousands of crore taka.
Besides, ACC sources said there are also allegations that during his tenure as former sports adviser, he interfered in the formation of the cricket board and took illegal benefits through former Assistant Private Secretary (APS) Moazzem Hossain.
However, the ACC will verify the truth of these allegations through investigation.
