He said this while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Prime Minister’s promised earthquake-related training’ programme as the chief guest at the Department of Disaster Management in the capital on Thursday (September 3) morning.

The minister said Bangladesh is at risk of various natural disasters including earthquakes. The government has taken various initiatives to reduce damages and sufferings caused by disasters. As part of this, in line with the prime minister’s directives, the ministry is preparing one lakh volunteers by training them so that rescue operations can be conducted quickly and the affected people can be helped after an earthquake.

Speaking as the special guest, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M Iqbal Hossain said training makes people skilled and confident. He expressed hope that trained volunteers would come forward to serve humanity whenever they get the opportunity.

Chairman of the event was Rezwanur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Disaster Management. Secretary of the Ministry Mohammad Saiful Islam also spoke at the programme.
