He made these remarks at a discussion meeting organized by the 'Citizens' Forum for Implementation of the People's Mandate' at the National Press Club on Saturday.
BNP could have been a hero, now turned villain: Tajul Islam
Tajul Islam said, the people wanted to see the reforms and benefits of the July Charter. BNP could have been the hero in this regard if it had wanted, but now it has entered the race to become the villain. He urged the party to take initiatives for constitutional reform by showing respect to the people's verdict.
He said, the country has been run in a new reality after the July mass uprising, and through elections the people approved reforms. But he alleged that due to one individual's ego, this aspiration of the people is being ignored.

Tajul Islam also criticized the government's role in implementing the fundamental aspects of the July Charter. Demanding implementation of various reforms, including the anti-enforced-disappearance law and the independence of the judiciary, he said the government must implement the July Charter according to its commitments.
He urged the opposition party to present its role in parliament more strongly and demanded implementation of the July Charter to fulfill the aspirations of the martyrs.
