Nepalese Ambassador pays courtesy call on Environment Minister
Ghanshyam Bhandari, Nepal's Ambassador to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Abdul Awal Mintu, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

During the meeting held at the minister's office at the Secretariat on Sunday, discussions were held on the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Nepal, as well as environmental protection, tackling climate change, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable management of natural resources.

In the meeting, the Environment Minister expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the recent accident in Nepal. He extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also said that Bangladesh stands by the government and people of Nepal during this time of crisis.

Abdul Awal Mintu said that although Bangladesh and Nepal face different types of climate change risks, the environment and ecosystems of the two countries are closely interlinked. He emphasized increasing regional cooperation to address common challenges such as changes in Himalayan glaciers, river basin balance, excessive rainfall, and floods.

The Nepalese Ambassador expressed interest in further strengthening environmental and climate cooperation between the two countries. He also discussed the possibility of working jointly on technical knowledge sharing, capacity building, and environmentally friendly development initiatives.

In addition, views were exchanged on increasing cooperation in trade, communication, tourism, education, and renewable energy sectors. Dr. Fahmida Khanam, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, was present at the meeting.
