On Sunday (September 6), the President said these things in his speech as the chief guest at a civic reception held at the Thakurgaon Government Boys High School ground.
He said everyone must play a responsible role in protecting independence, democracy and people's rights. He urged all to forget differences in national interest and build a prosperous, safe and democratic Bangladesh unitedly.
The President sought people's cooperation in maintaining the country's development, peace and stability. At the same time, he urged the younger generation to be inspired by patriotism and work for the welfare of the country.
Earlier, upon reaching Thakurgaon, the President received a guard of honour at the Circuit House. Later, he visited his parents' graves at Senua graveyard and went to his own residence at Kalibari area. After lunch and rest, he joined the civic reception in the afternoon.
After the reception, there is a schedule of courtesy meetings with dignitaries, relatives and locals at the President's own residence. On Monday, the second day of the two-day visit, he is scheduled to return to Dhaka after laying the foundation stone of Thakurgaon University.
In view of the President's visit, extensive security measures have been taken in Thakurgaon. Members of law enforcement agencies have been deployed at important installations, the event venue, roads and surrounding areas.
