On Monday (September 7), the President said these things in a speech after laying the foundation stone of Thakurgaon University.
He said, national problems must be resolved through discussion, not mutual disputes and conflict. He also called upon everyone to play a responsible role in strengthening the democratic system.
On this day at 11:20 am, the President laid the foundation stone at the designated site of the proposed university beside the Thakurgaon-Pirganj road in the Jamalpur area of the sadar upazila. Noting that the foundation stone was laid as part of the Prime Minister's commitment, he said construction work of the university would begin within a short time.
The President said the establishment of Thakurgaon University will further expand higher education opportunities for people in the northern region. He expressed hope that students from Thakurgaon and surrounding districts would also benefit from it.
This is his first official visit to his home district Thakurgaon after taking charge as President. He laid the foundation stone of the university on the second day of the two-day visit.
Earlier, on Sunday, upon arriving in Thakurgaon, the President received a guard of honour at the Circuit House. Later, he visited the graves of his parents. Extra security measures were taken in the city and important areas centering on the President's visit.
