He laid the foundation stone at the designated site of the proposed university beside the Thakurgaon-Pirganj road in the Jamalpur area of Sadar upazila at 11:20 am on Monday (September 7). Through this, the process of expanding higher education opportunities in the northern region moved one step further.

After laying the foundation stone, the President said, efforts are being made to fulfill the long-standing expectation of the people of Thakurgaon. He informed that work has begun to set up a medical college and university in the district and the initiative has also been taken to launch the airport.

He said employment generation and eliminating unemployment are essential to improve people's quality of life. The President urged young people not to run after jobs, but to become self-reliant by using their skills. At the same time, he called upon everyone to come forward to build a drug-free society.

Regarding the country's political situation, the President said the country must be advanced through dialogue and consensus, not through violence and conflict. He urged everyone to remain vigilant so that democracy, achieved at the cost of many sacrifices, is not lost again.

This is his first official visit to his own district Thakurgaon after assuming the presidency. On the first day of his two-day visit on Sunday, he arrived in Thakurgaon and paid homage at his parents' graves and took part in a civic reception.

Elaborate security measures were taken in Thakurgaon centering on the President's visit. Members of law enforcement agencies were deployed on important roads, the venue and various installations.
