He made these remarks in response to journalists' questions at the regular weekly briefing in the conference room of the Department of Information at the Secretariat on Tuesday noon.
Regarding the attack on Bandhan, Zahed Ur Rahman said he does not consider Awami League a political party, but rather a ‘mafia gang’. He claimed that being attacked by that group proves Bandhan was ‘on the right path’.
The actress alleged that a group of expatriates threw water and rotten eggs at Bandhan in Venice, Italy, on Monday night local time. Later, in a live broadcast on her social media, she said she was physically harassed and her phone was thrown away.
Bandhan alleged that some people identifying themselves as Venice Awami League and Chhatra League carried out the incident because of her support for the July movement. She said in the video that went viral, several people can be heard identifying themselves as Chhatra League.
After the incident, Bandhan filed a complaint with the local police. In a statement given on social media, she said the attackers taunted her over taking part in the July movement and tried to force her to chant political slogans.
Actress Azmeri Haque Bandhan is currently in Italy to take part in the Venice Film Festival.
