This year's theme of International Literacy Day is— “Literacy for People, Planet and Prosperity”.

The day is observed every year with the aim of raising public awareness about the importance and necessity of literacy and ensuring education for all. Literacy is not limited to learning to read and write; it is of immense importance as one of the foundations of the overall development and prosperity of individuals, society and the country.

On the occasion of the day, various programs have been undertaken under the initiative of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. Through these programs, expansion of educational opportunities, eradication of illiteracy, and the importance of literacy among the people of the country will be highlighted.
