The High Court has observed that in cheque dishonour cases, if the full amount mentioned in the cheque is paid and a compromise is reached between the complainant and the accused, there is no need to uphold the accused's imprisonment.
Justice Md. Bashir Ullah's single bench gave this observation in the judgment of the case 'Md. Abdul Hannan Master vs State and others'.

The court said the main purpose of a cheque dishonour case is not to punish or send the accused to jail. Rather, ensuring recovery of the creditor's money is the primary goal of such cases.

In this case, the accused paid the amount mentioned in the cheque as well as the bank's dues. Later, as a compromise was reached between both parties, the High Court quashed his one-year imprisonment.
At the same time, the court ordered that Tk 14,100 deposited in the lower court before the appeal be handed over to BRAC Microfinance.
