Importance on speaking-listening in primary curriculum
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said that in the new primary curriculum, special importance will be given to students' listening and speaking skills.

He said this in his speech as chief guest at the ‘Bangladesh TMTE (Training of Master Trainers in English) Members’ Conference 2026’ held at Dhaka PTI.

The state minister said, the four basic skills of language learning—listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing—must be given equal importance. Especially at the primary level, necessary practice and activities will be kept in the curriculum to develop students’ listening comprehension and correct speaking skills.

He said, a huge amount of scientific and technological knowledge is preserved in the English language. Therefore, it is important to ensure opportunities for acquiring linguistic skills to connect students with global knowledge.

Bobby Hajjaj further said, textbook-based teaching alone is not enough. Teachers must give specific proposals for the effective use of modern teaching aids including videos, workbooks, digital content and sports.

He said, education must be a right for all, skill-based, career-oriented and ethical. To bring change, it must be specific, reality-based and result-oriented.

Officials and representatives of the National Academy for Primary Education (NAPE), Directorate of Primary Education, British Council and TMTE Bangladesh were present at the event.
