Why investigation against me over incident during BNP government, asks Asif

At a press conference organized at the National Press Club on Wednesday, he alleged that the investigation against him was launched with the aim of harassing, intimidating and trying a political rival in the media in the name of a corruption probe.

Asif Mahmud said that after the ACC spokesperson's statement, news of the investigation against him was published in various media, which defamed him. He had said he would pursue legal action over the matter, and informed that legal steps had already begun.

He claimed that the incident being investigated occurred during the BNP government. He had resigned more than two months before that government came to power. According to the information he provided, he submitted his resignation on December 10, 2025 and it was accepted on December 11.

Questioning the role of the ACC, Asif Mahmud alleged that although steps were taken to reform the ACC after the July mass uprising, that initiative was later cancelled and a new commission was formed. He claimed the current investigation is politically motivated and launched to harass him.

He also said that if the specific incident is to be investigated, the roles of all concerned parties should be taken into account. In his view, verifying the dates of the promotion and related events will prove that there is no justification for the investigation against him.

The press conference was organized to protest allegations of irregularities in postings and transfers at the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the statement made by the ACC spokesperson on the matter.
