Directive not to write 'His Excellency' or 'Honourable' before titles of President, Prime Minister and ministers
The government has decided not to use 'His Excellency', 'Honourable' or any other honorific before the titles of the President, Prime Minister, Minister, Minister of State and Deputy Minister in official communications, documents and summaries.

The directive was issued in a circular from the General Administrative Branch of the Cabinet Division on Wednesday. The circular was signed by Tania Afroz, Deputy Secretary of the Cabinet Division.

The circular said that in official communications with the President and the Prime Minister, Ministers, Ministers of State and Deputy Ministers, and in presenting documents and summaries, no honorific word may be used in writing before their titles.

All ministries, divisions and subordinate offices of the government have been asked to follow this directive in official communications and transmission of documents. The circular also stated that the decision will take effect immediately.

Copies of the circular have been sent to the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, all Senior Secretaries and Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Upazila Executive Officers, the Chief Information Officer, and concerned administrative offices and officials for implementing the directive.
