If you have a fever, take adequate rest and consume water, oral saline, coconut water, and other fluids. For fever and pain, paracetamol may be used as advised by a physician. However, aspirin or medicines that can increase the risk of bleeding—such medicines should be avoided.

If there is severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, unusual weakness, the body becoming cold, or rapid deterioration, take the patient to the hospital immediately. If platelets decrease, do not panic; it is important to take measures as advised by a physician.

To prevent dengue, breeding sites of Aedes mosquitoes must be destroyed. Water should not be allowed to accumulate on rooftops, balconies, flower pots, abandoned containers, under refrigerators or air conditioners. Also, necessary precautions must be taken during the day to avoid mosquito bites.
