Deposits in sub-branches rise 5.5 percent, loans fall nearly 8 percent
Deposits in the sub-branches (sub-branch) of banks in the country increased by 5.7 percent in the April-June quarter of the current year. In contrast, disbursement of loans and advances decreased by 7.7 percent during the same period.

According to the latest statistics of Bangladesh Bank, at the end of June, the number of sub-branches in the country stood at 5,033, which was 4,992 in March. Currently, 50 banks are conducting banking operations through sub-branches.

During this period, total deposits in sub-branches increased from Tk 79,717 crore to Tk 84,263 crore. On the other hand, loans and advances decreased from Tk 22,309 crore to Tk 20,602 crore.

However, the share of loan disbursement in rural areas increased from 31.8 percent to 35.8 percent. Women's share of loans also rose from 14 percent to 14.7 percent.

District-wise, Dhaka has the highest number of sub-branches, 1,007. It is followed by Chattogram with 470 and Cumilla with 218. Bank-wise, IFIC Bank operates the highest number of sub-branches—1,224.
