Government to set up modern equipment, create skilled doctors for infertility treatment
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said an initiative will be taken to install modern equipment at the Infertility Centre of Dhaka Medical College to ensure modern facilities in infertility treatment in the country. He also said he will make maximum efforts to implement this initiative in the next budget.

He said these things in his speech as chief guest at a scientific seminar organized on the occasion of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Awareness Month at the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Unit of Dhaka Medical College on Sunday.

The health minister said that ensuring healthcare for all is one of the government's main goals. Infertility treatment is also part of important healthcare. Due to not being able to have children, many couples have to face social ridicule and harassment. If the problem can be solved through treatment, there is no reason to lag behind in this regard.

Emphasizing the need to reduce patients' tendency to go abroad for infertility treatment in the country, he said that although the country's talented doctors are capable, many go to India and Thailand for treatment. As a result, a huge amount of foreign currency goes out of the country. Along with raising public awareness to create confidence that treatment equivalent to that abroad is possible in the country—awareness activities will be strengthened at the district and village levels.

He further said that emphasis will be placed on training to create skilled doctors in infertility treatment, and women and couples facing problems will be encouraged to receive treatment in the country. ‘Even if we succeed in 80 percent of cases, that itself will be a great success for the country’—he said.
