Although Jamaat-e-Islami has expelled GM Nazrul Islam, the MP for Satkhira-4, the Election Commission (EC) has said there is no scope at this moment to take any action regarding his parliamentary membership.
On Monday (September 21), EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed gave this information to journalists at the Election Building. He said the jurisdiction to decide on this matter lies with the National Parliament Secretariat. The EC will take subsequent legal steps if it receives an official letter from the Speaker or the Parliament Secretariat.

The EC Secretary said the commission has received a letter from Jamaat-e-Islami regarding the expulsion of GM Nazrul Islam. However, the EC has no scope to take action on its own initiative based on that letter.

On whether local government elections will be held in November—he said the matter has not yet been finalized. If the commission decides, it will be announced officially.
