Mridul Islam alleged that his son died due to wrong treatment, administration of excessive doses of antibiotics, the absence of the doctor in charge, and negligence. While speaking about losing his child, he repeatedly broke down in tears.
Mridul said, ‘My child was a healthy child; he came to the hospital walking. Give me back my child, I won’t need anything else.’ He said preparations were underway to admit his son to school, and he always kept him with him.
According to family sources, Avan was admitted to the hospital on September 28 with fever and abdominal pain. Though treatment was started on suspicion of dengue, the family claims that multiple tests came back negative for dengue. Relatives allege that treatment continued as if it were dengue despite this.
On October 2, the child was taken to the ICU. The family alleged that the specialist doctor in charge was not physically present there; treatment was being conducted based on instructions given over the phone. Although hospital authorities said the child's condition was improving, he died around 5 pm the next day.
Relatives further alleged that Avan was given excessive doses of antibiotics while undergoing treatment. Later, his physical condition deteriorated and he developed ‘shock syndrome’. The family also alleged that initially they did not receive cooperation from hospital authorities in getting necessary documents, including the treatment case summary.
The family claims that medical documents obtained later showed information about a bacterial infection in the blood and shock syndrome. The family has demanded a proper investigation into the incident by examining these matters and legal action against those responsible. Avan’s father, Mridul Islam, is a media professional. Relatives have set off for their village home with the child’s body.
