He said this while visiting the project site of the second Karatoya Bridge over the Karatoya River in Mirgarh area of Dhakkamara Union of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila on Sunday (October 11) morning.
The State Minister said that the Farakka Treaty will expire on December 12. If India renews the treaty and ensures a fair share of water, the existing controversy over relations between the two countries will end. He remarked that this initiative will also play a role in resolving the controversy that existed over India's relations with and support for past governments.
At the time, Executive Engineer of Panchagarh Roads Division Md. Zakir Hossain, District BNP Convener Zahirul Islam Kachchu, District Juba Dal President Ferdous Wahid Rasel, along with officials and employees of the Roads Division, were present.
Meanwhile, as the bridge construction project over the Karatoya River in Mirgarh area, at a cost of Tk 203 crore 52 lakh, was approved at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), local residents offered sweets to the State Minister. The bridge will be constructed on the road from Bhajanpur of Tentulia Upazila to Mirgarh of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila.
The project's implementation period has been set from October 2026 to June 2030. Once the bridge is built, the suffering of people on both banks of the river in commuting will be reduced. Besides, communication facilities for transporting agricultural products, medical treatment, education and business and trade will become easier.
Later, the State Minister distributed leaflets containing allegations of irregularities and corruption by the previous Awami League government among traders at various places in Panchagarh district town.
