Proposal to relocate Secretariat to Agargaon to be placed at next Cabinet meeting
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher (Suman) has said the proposal to relocate the Bangladesh Secretariat to Agargaon will be placed at the next Cabinet meeting. He said the next steps of the relocation will begin if the Cabinet approves it.

The minister gave this information while talking to journalists at an event at the Secretariat on Tuesday (October 13). He said there had earlier been a master plan regarding the relocation of the Secretariat. In light of that plan, preliminary scrutiny and preparatory work are underway.

The minister said the current Secretariat has a parking and space crisis. As the offices of many ministries are scattered outside the main building, complications are being created in conducting administrative activities. Besides, since most of the Secretariat buildings were constructed in the 1960s, they have become old. The issue of safety during earthquakes and various natural disasters also has to be taken into consideration.

Zakaria Taher said work is underway with the aim of relocating the Secretariat to Agargaon within the current government's tenure, taking all aspects into consideration. He also said that if the Prime Minister's directives and formal approval of the Cabinet are received, the construction and relocation work will be moved forward within the stipulated time.
