The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) was established on October 16, 1945. In commemoration of the organization's founding anniversary, it was decided in 1979 to observe World Food Day. The day has been observed regularly since 1981.
Millions of people around the world are still at risk of hunger, malnutrition, and food crisis. Climate change, natural disasters, conflict, rising food prices, and economic uncertainty have become major challenges for food security.
In Bangladesh too, ensuring safe and nutritious food, increasing agricultural productivity, preventing food waste, and ensuring access to balanced food for all are important. Effective initiatives are especially needed to improve food access and the nutrition situation of low-income people.
The main goal of World Food Day is to encourage individuals, communities, governments, and international organizations to work together to eliminate hunger and malnutrition. On this day, a call is made to build a hunger-free world through sustainable agriculture, development of food systems, and ensuring balanced distribution of food.
