Protecting the honour of the national flag is the sacred duty of all soldiers: Prime Minister
Prime Minister Tareq Rahman has remarked that protecting the honour of the national flag is the sacred duty of all soldiers. He said this on Sunday (18 October) at a ceremony to present the national flag to several battalions and regiments in Savar. The Prime Minister noted that as recognition of professional success, 7 and 32 Field Regiment Artillery, 25 Air Defence Regiment, 9 Engineer Battalion, 56 and 57 East Bengal, and the President's Guard Regiment have earned the glory of receiving the 'National Standard' or national flag.

Recalling the memories of the Liberation War, the Prime Minister said that when the Pakistani forces launched a brutal attack on the night of 25 March 1971, the then second-in-command of the 8th East Bengal Regiment in Chattogram, Major Ziaur Rahman, built resistance by saying ‘We Revolt’. Later, at 2:15 am on 26 March, he gave the order for armed struggle for independence and declared independence from the Kalurghat radio station on 27 March, which is an inspiring chapter for the armed forces.
