Call for National Hackathon for Digital Transformation of Health System: State Minister for Health
State Minister for Health Dr. A M Muqit has announced a national hackathon with the aim of protecting, researching, and implementing the ‘e-Health Card’ through an integrated health information repository of nearly 200 million people in the country. He outlined the programme at a press briefing held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital on Sunday (October 18) in partnership with the World Health Organization. The main objective of the event is to ensure the digital transformation of the health sector by utilizing the talent and new ideas of young innovators at the grassroots level.

The State Minister for Health said that this integrated initiative has been taken to ensure interoperability among all systems so that isolated initiatives do not remain trapped in separate silos. Noting that preserving the medical records of 200 million citizens—prescriptions, medicine purchases, and lab tests—will create vast opportunities for research, he said these technologies will be used while maintaining national sovereignty and the highest confidentiality of information. A month-long registration process will continue to participate in this hackathon, and selected teams will receive mentorship from local and foreign experts through a three-day bootcamp in Dhaka.

At the event, Chairman of Invest Bangladesh Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun said that through this open competition, innovative ideas of talented young people from remote areas will also reach the government directly. In addition, if the country's nearly 14 billion dollar healthcare market is digitalized and brought under a reliable database, it will be possible to attract large-scale domestic and foreign investment. Senior officials from the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank, and the Directorate General of Health Services were present at the briefing.
