In an interview with a media outlet recently, he said, ‘I was supposed to become an MP, but by not letting that happen, Allah has done good for me and protected my honor.’
Recounting his experience of BNP's nomination process in the Munshiganj-2 constituency, Ripon said that despite facing cases, imprisonment and sacrifices during the previous government's tenure, he felt dishonored when industrialist Mizanur Rahman Sinha, who had been away from the party for a long time, was initially given the nomination. However, even though Sinha became seriously ill and was undergoing treatment in Singapore, he did not use his colleague's critical condition as an occasion to gain his own political advantage. He did not lobby for the nomination on that opportunity because doing so would have been contrary to his moral stance. It may be noted that later Abdus Salam Azad was made the party candidate in this seat.
In the interview, he recalled opening the party office on the instructions of Tarique Rahman in the days before the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, and the various political risks he had taken in the past as a spokesperson. He said, in politics, becoming a member of parliament is not everything; in the long run, maintaining political ideology, personal honesty and morality is the real achievement of an activist.
