He made the allegation while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed ‘July Memorial’ at Osmani Udyan in the capital on Monday. The Home Minister said the government wants to advance a constitutional process that many may describe as reform. However, the opposition party has so far not cooperated in the amendment process.
Highlighting the context of the July National Charter, Salahuddin Ahmed said the charter was formulated through lengthy discussions and dialogue. Through continuous democratic struggle from 2009 to 2024, the student-people mass uprising took place on August 5, 2024. This uprising will provide important direction in building Bangladesh’s future.
He said the bloody history of July will remain ever memorable in national life and will inspire future generations. The spirit of July should not be limited to formalities or annual events but must also be highlighted in literature, drama and cultural activities.
The Home Minister further said that the true dignity of the martyrs will be established only by recognizing their sacrifice and realizing the aspirations of July. Some matters of implementing the July National Charter are constitutional and some relate to laws and regulations. These processes are being advanced.
He informed that the government is working to build Bangladesh for future generations by upholding the spirit of July. The plan announced by Prime Minister Tareq Rahman also includes the matter of realizing the aspirations of the martyrs.
