He said these things in his speech after inaugurating the newly built ‘July Memorial’ at the historic Osmani Garden in the capital on Monday (October 19).
Criticizing the opposition party, the Prime Minister said the opposition is opposing just for the sake of opposition. Although they were invited to the inauguration ceremony of the July Memorial, they did not attend. He remarked that even if there is distance with the government, they should have come to the event to pay respect to the July martyrs, the injured, and those who lost their eyesight.
Tareq Rahman said that it is because of the sacrifice of the July martyrs and the sacrifices of the injured that many people today have become known as opposition party leaders and members of parliament. Yet the opposition party leaders were not seen at the event organized in their memory. He said that just as BNP embraces the spirit of July, if the opposition party also embraced it, their presence at the event would have been expected.
The Prime Minister further said that both the opposition party and the ruling party have received responsibility through the votes and support of the people. Therefore, it is necessary to move away from the politics of accusations such as that the ruling party does not look after the interests of the people, or that the opposition party opposes only for the sake of opposition. He also mentioned that the government is working to change people's living standards and fate.
