At the meeting, the Minister of State noted that because Bangladesh is a densely populated country, the prolonged presence of a large Rohingya population is having a major negative impact on the local environment, surroundings, and socioeconomic progress. Rapid and safe repatriation is the only permanent solution to overcoming this crisis.
The UN Special Envoy expressed gratitude to Bangladesh for providing shelter and humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas for a long time and called for continuing this humanitarian attitude until the crisis is resolved. At the same time, expressing support for Bangladesh's position, she assured of continuing the necessary international assistance.
Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Mohammad Saiful Islam, Chief of the Refugee Cell Mohammad Nazmul Abedin, UN Senior Political Officer Duncan Keith Wilson, and Public Information Officer Pnu Pei Det Chael were present at the meeting.
