On Monday, during an exchange of views with officials and employees while visiting Nagar Bhaban, the main office of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), he said, ‘Leave aside everyone else’s words; let us build a healthy environment, a healthy city, for our own children. Come, let us all make that effort together.’
The Prime Minister said that one of the biggest problems of Dhaka city is garbage and uncleanliness. It is not possible to solve this problem in one day or seven days. However, if everyone tries sincerely, the situation can gradually be changed. Referring to their children travelling to schools, colleges, playgrounds and various places in the city, he said that not only one's own area but the entire city must be kept clean.
Citing the example of London, Tareq Rahman said that in the sixties and seventies there was dirt and garbage in many places in the city. Through long efforts and citizen awareness, they improved the situation. He also emphasized performing one's own responsibilities instead of lamenting after seeing clean cities abroad.
The Prime Minister also said that a top official of a South Korean company that has been doing business in Bangladesh for a long time recently informed him that the cleanliness situation in Dhaka has improved somewhat. He called for continuing the development of roads and waste management as well as bringing themselves under accountability for performing their duties.
Earlier, the Prime Minister visited the emergency operation center of Nagar Bhaban. There he inquired about arrangements for monitoring weather, earthquakes, wind speed, flood forecasts and air quality. He also monitored the city's cleanliness activities through Facebook Live and watched a video documentary made on the development and various activities of Dhaka South City Corporation.
At that time, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shah Alam, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation Abdus Salam, Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton, and Senior Secretary of the Local Government Division Shahidul Hasan were present.
