In a video recently published on social media, he said Dr. Firdausi's research is helping prevent cholera outbreaks and save lives.
In the video, Dr. Firdausi Qadri can also be seen speaking about Bangladesh's National Cholera Control Plan. She says that at certain times of the year, especially in winter, cholera outbreaks increase, and about 100 million doses of vaccine are needed to tackle them. Bill Gates said the oral vaccine is easy to administer and plays an effective role in reducing the risk of death.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is working with the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) and Dr. Firdausi Qadri on research into affordable oral cholera vaccines in Bangladesh. Earlier, Bill Gates had also praised Dr. Firdausi's research on his personal blog ‘GatesNotes’.
